MANCHESTER TRAVEL CARD

The Greater Manchester Travel Card significantly reduces the cost of transport applying to all Metrolink trams and most bus services including that of Stagecoach, Arriva and First. Your 1st 28-day Travel Card is completely free with no extra costs! Each card after also lasts 28 days. After your first card has expired you will be able to attain another pass but the cost gradually increases with each pass. How do I know if I am eligible?

In order to claim your free Travel Card, you must:

  • You need to be based in the Greater Manchester Area.
  • Currently enrolled on an Apprenticeship.
  • Be in the first 6 months of your training.

How do I Apply?

To apply for your Apprentice Travel Card there is a three-stage process. Initially, you need to complete an application form to prove your eligibility for the Pass and have your employer both authorise and countersign it.

To get your application form you can ask your employer directly for a form or collect it from a Greater Manchester Travel centre.

How do I receive the Travel Card?

To obtain the Ticket you need to complete the application form and bring any form of required Identification to any TfGM Travel Shop. Whilst there the Travel Shop will provide you with a System One membership card which is what you need when travelling.

Not An Apprentice?

MERSEYSIDE TRAVEL CARD

The Merseyside travel card also reduces the price of travel around the area offering a 50% discount on travel prices via the SOLO Bus Pass. Any Apprentice aged 19-24 and on an approved ESFA apprenticeship is eligible for a Travel Card.

How do I know if I am eligible?

In order to claim your Travel Card, you must:New_Website_1

  • Be aged 19 to 24 on the date you apply for the apprenticeship
  • Enrolled on an approved Apprenticeship Standard through a training provider that has an ESFA direct contract, for example, one of our own apprenticeships
  • Living in the Liverpool City Region

How do I Apply?

To obtain the ticket you need to complete the application form including details about yourself and your job role, and then have you, your training provider and employer. Whilst there the Travel Shop will provide you with a System One membership card which is what you need when traveling. Following this, you need to visit a Merseyside travel centre to obtain a Travelcard and purchase the discounted weekly or monthly SOLO ticket. These travel centres are located at:

  • Birkenhead Bus Station
  • Bootle Bus Station
  • Huyton Bus Station
  • Liverpool ONE Bus Station
  • Queen Square Bus Station
  • St Helens Bus Station.

To receive the Apprenticeship travelcard you must fill out an application form. You can collect an application form from a Merseytravel Travel Centre or directly from your training provider.

Traveling By Train?

As well as being offered half-price bus tickets the

Merseyside Travel Card also offers a 50% discount on railcards across the Liverpool area. You will likewise be able to buy weekly a monthly rail passes, potentially saving up to £680 a year if traveling by train ultimately removing one of the biggest barriers facing potential apprentices, that being affordable travel.
