Apprenticeship Units

Apprenticeship units are short, focused training modules built from existing apprenticeship standards, each concentrating on a single skill area and completed in as little as one week. They’re funded through the Growth and Skills Levy: fully funded for non-levy employers, and paid from your levy account if you’re a levy payer. Right now we’re taking bookings for three AI Leadership units — see below, or book a place directly.

Levy-paying organisations allocate funds directly from their digital account; once those funds are used, the standard co-investment rate applies (5% employer / 95% government until 31 July 2026, rising to 25% employer / 75% government from 1 August 2026). Non-levy employers get apprenticeship units fully funded by government — there’s no employer contribution at all. In every case, the learner pays nothing towards their training.

Each unit has a minimum of 30 delivery hours and a maximum government funding rate of £750.

Apprenticeship units are intentionally short and focused, typically lasting between 1 and 16 weeks, depending on the unit’s complexity and learning outcomes.

This makes them ideal for employers who need rapid skills development without the long‑term commitment of a full apprenticeship. Delivery can be remote, blended, or on‑site, giving you flexibility to minimise disruption to day‑to‑day operations.

NowSkills works with you to plan delivery around operational peaks, ensuring your team gains new skills without compromising productivity.

Employers choose apprenticeship units because they deliver targeted, measurable improvements in a short timeframe. Each unit focuses on a specific skill area — such as AI leadership, digital productivity, data literacy, or technical problem‑solving — and is designed to translate into immediate workplace impact.

NowSkills helps employers identify the units that align with their strategic goals, whether that’s improving efficiency, adopting new technologies, or developing future leaders. The result is training that feels practical, relevant, and commercially valuable from day one.

On completion, learners receive a NowSkills Certificate of Completion — a formal record of achievement on a government-approved apprenticeship unit, though not a qualification from an external awarding body.

Apprenticeship units are designed to be accessible and straightforward. In most cases, learners must:

– Be aged 19 or over
– Be employed in a suitable role
– Have the capacity to apply the skills in their day‑to‑day work

Units can be taken by existing staff, not just new starters, and they can be used as standalone development or as stepping stones toward a full apprenticeship later.

NowSkills provides clear guidance on eligibility, prior learning, and suitability so employers can enrol staff with confidence.

Apprenticeship units use a streamlined delivery and assessment model designed for speed and clarity. Learning is delivered through a mix of workshops, guided study, and practical application, with a provider‑led skills test at the end to confirm competence.

Employers play a light‑touch but important role in validating that the learner has applied their new skills in the workplace.

NowSkills manages the full process — delivery, assessment, evidence capture, and reporting — so employers can focus on outcomes rather than administration.
