Standards or Frameworks?

From August 2017 all new apprenticeship starts with NowSkills will be on the new Apprenticeship Standards. We will have an overlap whilst some apprentices complete their Frameworks.

For some time, we have been successfully delivering Apprenticeships in the form of Frameworks. NowSkills frameworks have always had lots of added value extras such as vendor qualifications, industry visits and also a focus on the commercial implementation of IT delivered by training trams with real-world experience.

Over the past couple of years, the government wanted to update the way apprenticeships are delivered and also tested different delivery models using the Trailblazers project. This project has now evolved into Apprenticeship Standards and in time the Frameworks will phase out and replaced by Standards. As a provider moving across to this, NowSkills has a mixture of Frameworks and also Standards and this mix is changing every quarter.

Standards bring in more vendor qualifications. They introduce something called an End Point Assessment (EPA). This means that as an employer, you now need to select an organisation to deliver your EPA. If you’re having difficulty we can help. An EPA is a test at the end the apprenticeship of your apprentice’s knowledge. At the time of writing, few apprentices on Standards have taken their EPA and also the provider list is smaller than will be required when they are fully adopted. It is a new part of apprentice assessment that is still evolving.

Both qualifications (Frameworks & Standards) are Official IT Apprenticeships with an Official Apprenticeship Certificate.

The vendor qualifications may differ. However, if you specifically wanted a qualification not included in your apprentice’s apprenticeship, please let us know. The funding rules are the same for Standard and Frameworks, you can use Levy or co-investment funding to pay.
