What is Prevent Duty?
The Prevent duty is the duty in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 on specified authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. It focuses on radicalisation, extremism and counter-terrorism threats.
One of NowSkills’ priorities is to ensure that our staff understand the Prevent duty to reduce the risk of Apprentices being drawn into radicalisation. We have implemented internal procedures and ongoing staff training to support our commitment to the Prevent duty.
At NowSkills and as a training provider, we:
Train and support our staff to identify learners who may be vulnerable
Train our staff to understand what steps should be taken once a risk has been identified
As part of our safeguarding duties, NowSkills protects Apprentices from the risk of radicalisation from withing NowSkills or outside influences.
Create awareness of the Prevent duty within our training and within premises
Following our safeguarding policy, staff will be alert to any changes in learner’s behaviour which could show signs that they may be in need of help or protection.
