At NowSkills we are extremely committed to the protection and safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults within our care. This is why we ensure all of our team members attend courses focusing on safeguarding. Whether you’re a potential Apprentice wondering whether going to an Apprenticeship within potentially a businesses you have never heard of or experienced before, or a parent/carer looking for assurance that their son/daughter will be safe during the course – relax, we’ve got your back!

Before even accepting a role a member of staff will take the time to personally visit the location, and meet the staff. If we do not believe it meets our requirements to standards, we will not accept the position. Every role offered to an Apprentice has been considered with caution previously. This is especially important when young people and vulnerable adults are in employment as part of their Apprenticeship or training programme. Our safeguarding policy demonstrates the organisation’s values and beliefs in relation to a learner’s individual rights to freedom from abuse and harm.

Staff, learners, parents/guardians should feel secure that they could raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of young people and vulnerable adult learners and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This will be achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding by demonstrating zero tolerance of abuse and other harmful behaviours, promoting the welfare of young people, vulnerable adults and protecting staff. This is supported by clear equal opportunities, health and safety, disclosure and safeguarding policies, appropriate induction and training, briefing and discussion of relevant issues and relevant learning in line with current legislature and guidelines.

There are numerous threats to the well-being of children and vulnerable adults, some obvious, some not. Being aware of the type of threats will assist you in recognising and identifying them and their affects.

  • Sexual abuse
  • Neglect
  • Bullying and harassment

Less Obvious: 

  • Stress
  • Poor work life balance
  • Social inclusion
  • Online threats

Although our team understands that any of our young learners who confide in them will most likely want them to keep the information shared confidential, for safety reasons, if for any reason there is a concern for the safety or well-being of the learner, our members may need to report the problem to the police, the Local Council Safeguarding Authority, or any other relevant organisation which may be able to assist with the problem better. Before any of this, if not already done so in the first instance, they will report it to the designated safeguarding officer for NowSkills.

Alongside our safeguarding policy, we also take our equality and diversity policy very seriously. At NowSkills, we understand that everyone should be treated fairly, and have the chance of equal opportunities. Although we promote this, we don’t entirely believe that everyone should be treated the same. We understand that people have different needs, and to allow equal opportunities, it is essential that these needs are recognised and focused upon for each individual.

NowSkills have zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind – sex, race, sexuality, disabilities etc. Disciplinary action will take place for anyone who breaches the policy. Whether done towards an employer, a member of staff, a young learner, or even a member of the public, we will not accept this type of behaviour on any behalf.
